A total of 160 paddy field owners in Kota Belud received cash incentives of RM809 per acre or RM2000 per hectare as part of the government's aim in developing paddy farming activities.
The incentives, handed out by Deputy Chief Minister Yahya Hussin at Kota Belud recently, are part of the Centralised Management Incentive under the National Key Economic Area (NKEA) for Agriculture or Entry Point Project 11 (EPP 11).

Yahya, who is also Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry, said that the goal of the EPP 11 in Kota Belud is to increase the productivity of paddy farming. The programme will be carried out in stages beginning in January 2013, when paddy farmers at Kampung Taun Gusi Kerajangan, Taun Gusi Padang and Jawi-Jawi will receive planting assistance from the government.
The programme will continue into the year 2020, by which time it will have covered an  area of more than 5,000 hectares, if all goes according to plan.
Participants of the programme will receive incentives for each planting season.

Elaborating on the planting programme, Yahya stressed that the government had no intention of taking over the  land. Instead it seeks the landowners' agreement to allow the land to be used for a certain period of time to enable upgrading works to be done systematically.
The agriculture component of the NKEA focuses on transforming the traditional small-scale rice production into a large scale agribusiness industry that will contribute to economic growth and sustainability.
The agriculture NKEA is expected to increase the country's Gross National Income (GNI) up to 28.9 billion by the year 2020, generating 74, 600 jobs. - Insight Sabah
